XE PIAN TREKKING
The Xe Pian National Protected Area (NPA), covering over 240,000 hectares in the southern provinces of Champasack and Attapeu, and touching the national border to Cambodia, is one of the most important nature reserves in Laos. It is home to abundant and rare wildlife such as elephant, gaur, Sun bear, Asiatic black bear, and the yellow-cheeked gibbon, and famous for its extensive wetlands (a RAMSAR convention site). An exciting day-long expedition with long but easy trekking!.

Itinerary: We depart from the Green Discovery Pakse office at 08:00AM and go by local transportation to Ban Kiet Ngong village at the edge of the Xe Pian NPA where we meet our local guide. He will give us interesting information about the wildlife in the area and local forest plants and their uses as food supplement and traditional medicine.
Our trek starts at this village and we walk through forest deep in to the nature reserve. We may have the chance to see elephants in the jungle not too far from the village. Somewhere along the way we will have our picnic lunch. After some time of relaxing we continue our trip while observing and listening to the many different birds inhabiting the canopy and lower sections of the forest. If we are lucky, we will see monkeys passing by. Our guide will take us to see the "Big hole", which was used in the past by local people to catch wild elephants. On the loop back to the village, we will stop at the Phou Asa temple on the plateau close to ban Kiet Ngong. We estimate to arrive in the village at about 05:00PM.
Approximately: transfer 1 hour/ trekking 4 - 4 ½ hours
