EVENTS & FESTIVALS IN BOLIKHAMXAY
Almost every month of the year there is either a local festival or celebration in Laos. The word for festival in Lao is boun, which also means doing good things in order to gain merit for subsequent lives. If you are in Bolikhamxay while any of the festivals are taking place you will surely be welcomed and asked to join the fun. Please feel free to participate, however remember that most of the festivals are based on religious beliefs, so your hosts will appreciate it if you respect local codes of behavior.

Thabor Village, Bolikhan District. This festival is held to support local farmers who bring their watermelons to the fair and sell directly to consumers.
PHABATH STUPA FESTIVAL
Thaphabath District. This is the most significant event of Bolikhamxay to celebrate the old stupa and give respect to Buddha footprint. At the festival, there is a Buddhist ceremony and fair.
WAT DAN FESTIVAL
The yearly Buddhist ceremony of Dan Soung Temple, simply called 'Wat Dan' the significant temple in Pakxan Town.
BOUN BANG FAI (ROCKET FESTIVAL)
The festival to beg for rain from 'Pha Ya Thaen' the Prime God and to celebrate the beginning of rice farming. There are many 'Boun Bang Fai' events in many part of Bolikhamxay, but the biggest one is in Kuai Village, Pakxan Town.
BOUN SUANG HEUA (BOAT RACING FESTIVAL)
The tournaments are held to give respect to the God of River and celebrate the Harvest; the biggest 'Boun Suang Heua' of Bolikhamxay is in Pakxan District, where Nam Xan River meets Mekong River.
HMONG NEW YEAR FESTIVAL
The New Year of 'Hmong' Tribe, there are many exciting traditional activities
Pha Muang Village, Bolikhan District;
Kor Hai-Na Pae Village, Khamkeuth District;
Thongnami Village, Pakkading District.
